That’s not all, another new additive to this pedal point conodrum is the use of hybrid picking, whereby your pick hand 2nd finger plays the the pedal point note making it snap out of the mix like a pack of firecrackers.

No one, but no one could deliver this sound with more vibe than Dimebag Darrell, who by the way was a Texan rife with gutteral blues inflections in his playing. The lick at hand is classic Dimebag and recalls the descending genius he shot out in “Revolution is my Name” from The Great Southern Trendkill. Loaded with smartly placed pull-offs, his 32nd note sequences sound as smooth as butta!

From his archaic shaped Flying-V style Jacksons to his polka dot decor, Randy was an original through and through. This next lick delves into the concept of repetition as heard in Randy’s explosive entrance into his first solo on the Blizzard of Oz track, “Mr. Crowley” where he deflty lays down the lick of licks four times over before burning down the Dm pentatonic in 16th note triplets. The tension built by repeating that first lick is then released by the flurry that follows–listen and learn!

This was the first ever fast rock lick that I learned as kid beginner getting into metal. It is a very versatile little lick and here I show you a few variations on it so you can get stuck in Picking should be down on the first note and then up for the next picked note. so it goes… down pick, hammer, flick, up pick on the next string!
