Honestly, yes. It’s a real pain-in-the-butt. But the more you practice, the more you get use to it! Also, don’t just push the strings so hard that you can feel the surface of the wood.? Just push it hard enough to make the string sound normal.

I’m really used to using my ring finger to? press down the third fret on the high E string when? I’m playing a G, should I try to orient myself to use my pinkie or is it okay the way I play?

Changing chords is a tough hurdle to get over and it is the reason most budding guitarists let there guitar sit on top of the wardrobe never to be seen again. That’s there choice but they must remember playing any instrument takes positive mental attitude and lots of practice.Chord memory/muscle memory is achievable and most failed guitar players just do? not give it enough time. There are two P words in guitar playing.
    Practice and patience….

Your fingers will toughen up over time. Hang in there, it is worth the little bit of discomfort you are feeling.?
