Do we have to learn the church modes cause my music teacher said no you don’t cause there are major and minor scales and there can be accidentals and sharps in songs and people will never know if there are playing any of the church modes cause all they know is the major/minor scale if they are looking at a piece of sheet music. But the question is do i have to learn the Church modes

    Aeolian, Dorian, Ionian Etc.?

So you must improvise all the things ? I’m a? beginner, I now pentatonics are useful for solos but I’m wondering if we have to follow a “pattern” or if we must improve with the basics of the pentatonic…
