string or pressing harder but it doesn’t seem to work effectively. also my hand position doesn’t seem to be consistent, and i think it may be because i may be placing my thumb in the wrong place, is there a specific place the thumb must go for this excercise to work? Many Thanks, Dominic.

Hi my name is dominic and i suffer with a difficulty known as dypraxia, so i take a litlle more time to learn things involving movement. i have tryed this excercise everyday solid working with a meteronome starting slowly but still having a few problems. i was wondering if you had any extra advice on the uniformity of the fingers. i seem to be struggling with the pinky finger mainly as it always buzzes, i have tryed playing near to the fret as advised, and ive tryed applying less weight on the

Put your guitar playing at the next level

You should start out with an acoustic, it is a it more difficult but will help in the long run as it helps you play properly and will make a transition to an electric easy. You will sooner or later find a lot of set backs if you start out on electric, it’s not a short cut to learning how to play guitar.

Which guitar do you prefer starting out with, an acoustic or electric? In other beginner videos they say electric is alot easier to play than acoustic.

It’s really difficult to teach through videos lke this which is why I stick to the simple things. If you have a link to send me to the video you talked about, that could help clarify the differences. Sorry to take so long to answer your question, hopefully you worked out the most logically way to do things in the meantime.

Put music in your life – play guitar!

You want to try to avoid touching the neighboring strings, Most likely yor hand is not small, you just have to improve your posture/stretching, which this exercise should help out with.

My hands seem too small when reaching for the e string. How bad is it that I am touching the neighboring string?

Put your guitar playing at the next level

If I do the exercise like he is doing it it works just fine.
But I saw a exercise in another video its basically the same but you don’t lift your 2,3 and 4th finger wenn going down a string with the first and that never worked out because my 3rd and 4th finger are always touching the string below so you can’t get a descent sound out of it.
Should I just do this exercise or what could I do, my 3rd and 4th finger just wont hit the upper strings without touching multiple ones…
    Anyone got a hint?

Take your guitar playing to the next level

you’ll get the hang of it, it really is a great exercise, despite how boring it is. ive been playing for seven years and i was never taught this exercise to begin with. now i feel that not only is my left hand speed slower than it probably could be (not saying im super slow, just that i could be faster), but my little finger could probably have been more controlled, and stronger because of exercises like this one :)

Thanks. Very simple concept. I’ve been using scales for exercise, but this is better because you used all of your fingers. I’ll be using this now.

Make sure your trying the tricky things after about 10 mins of playing your hands/fingers need to be nice and warm and stretched.

Your pinky will get stronger :)
