continued again again…. Since 1980 I probably brought my Les Paul Custom in 2 times and my Steinberger 1 time to have the intonation tuned… WHEN ALL IT WAS was OLD strings!!!! So remember guitarists… If you are having intonation issues… try simply changing to a NEW string… That fixed my problem. I can’t believe how BAD an old string can sound. I really can’t. I never realized it til about a week ago. Now I know… and I want to spread the word… NEW STRINGS solve tuning problems.

Take your guitar playing to the next level

continued again…. It was NO FUN playing my guitar when the intonation was out. I recently re-recorded a song I wrote in 1989 titled BEING ALONE WITH YOU. Check it out… I uploaded a video of it. I had to GO BACK and re-record individual chords because my ‘B’ string was so far out of intonation. That ******. Hours or wasted time because of bad intonation. Now I am confident I can handle my intonation issues. I maybe brought my guitars in a total of 3 times for intonation….

continued… When I tried fixing the intonation… I moved the SADDLE forward to fix the problem… but I couldn’t move it ANYMORE forward because the saddle hit the body of the guitar. I almost sent it in to get fixed. But I’m so broke with no job… I read on the internet… that when doing the intonation… ALWAYS change strings first. I did…. I changed 1 string and it fixed the problem. I just had to push the saddle BACK where it was and the tuning is GREAT now. Man I’m happy.

hahahhaah… You are probably right. I didn’t listen to this video to find out. But you are PROBABLY right because I was having some MAJOR intonation issues. And GUESS what it was? OLD STRINGS. That’s it. I changed my ‘B’ string and BAM… perfect tune again. The ‘B’ string was litterally fluctuating in tone when I plucked it… I thought my pickups were going bad or something. I’ve played guitar since 1980 and have NEVER experienced terrible intonation from BAD STRINGS. I was shocked.

Put music in your life – play guitar!

Yeah… I think it’s time they do. Ed’s son I think made the set list for their last tour… We should try contacting the group or get the word out for Van Halen to play TOP JIMMY LIVE since it’s a great song and they never have performed it live. The tuning would be annoying if Ed only had 1 guitar… but he has many… so that’s not a problem. For me it’s one of Van Halens easier songs to play… so Ed could easily perform it today.

Yeah. A lot of people say they love the song TOP JIMMY by Van Halen, but playing it on guitar… we need to tune our strings different to play it. This song came out in 1984 and for the FIRST TIME tuned my guitar so I could attempt to play it (2009, 25 years). So yeah… I’ve been wondering ALL THOSE YEARS if I could maybe come close… and I’ve come closer than I ever thought possible. Very fun to play the song… and just soloing over the different tuning.

I’m not playing exactly how it goes… Just having fun… It’s what I came up with listening to the original Van Halen Top Jimmy song. I know I’m doing the part between 3:45 and 4:38 a little different than the original. After listening to the original Van Halen recording after making this video… I notice Ed is pulling off more on that section. So… This video gives you an idea what to play… but it’s not perfect.
