My guitar is a Steinberger model GL7TA made by the original Ned Steinberger guitar company in New York. Ned sold his company to Gibson and now Gibson makes ‘wood’ versions of this guitar… far less expensive to make the Gibson versions and I would guess the quality isn’t as good. The neck and body on my guitar are 1 piece solid graphite composite and this Steinberger comes with the TRANS TREM feature as well… that allows me to LOCK IN the whammy bar in 2 upper, 3 lower positions (capo like)

Thanks. Yeah I make a lot of mess-ups… That comes with my style. I’m not as talented as Eddie Van Halen or Steve Vai… I’m always struggling to play. A lot of times I’m also trying to create new ideas while I’m playing in these Rock Guitar Fun videos… I’m not so concerned with making mistakes… That will happen when you are trying to create music. Playing in a LIVE band really helps a person get over worrying about making mistakes… Once you get beyond that you start playing better.

In this video I spend most of the beginning showing how I play the 17th fret section of ERUPTION by Van Halen. I do have a 3 part video lesson for Eruption, but after slowing down Eruption using software… I heard different notes than what I was teaching in my Eruption Lesson videos. So I took this opportunity to show how I play this part now days. Hope this helps some of your who are learning Eruption.

You asked how I tune my Steinberger model GL7TA guitar… There are 6 small cylindar shaped tuning knobs at the opposite end of the head of the guitar… down by the bridge of the guitar. I like having the tuning knobs there… and I like that each strings has a ball on each end of the string (double ball strings)… Makes for fast string changes and helps keep the strings in tune… no slippage. The tuning knobs quickly tune UP/DOWN each string nice… very fast tuning and string changes.

For the first time in my life I tuned my guitar so I can attempt to play TOP JIMMY by Van Halen. It’s been fun trying to play it. I found a youtube video of the original song so I could learn it. Before I tune my guitar back to normal… I’ll make a Rock Guitar Fun 5 starting out with jamming some TOP JIMMY music.
